I don't sell many links. In fact I've only sold a few and the buyers approached me. But I realise that this is one way that you can monetise a site, and I also realise that there is much money to be made doing this. So, I've decided to take more of an interest in the subject of selling link, and adopt a more proactive approach to finding buyers. Now, if only there was a tool that would enable me to find potential link buyers... Continue reading →

I’ve probably made close to 15 cups of coffee using the kitchen at work in the last few months. I spend most of my time drinking it, but sooner or later my cup runs dry and someone has to make another. Some of the time it’s me and some of the time it’s other members of my small but perfectly formed “hot drink group”. Continue reading →

Recently, a couple of my sites were overwhelmed by irrelevant Adsense adverts relating to the credit/loans niche. The mention of Harringtom Brooks and Adsense in the same sentence still makes me shudder! My sites had nothing to do with credit/loans so of course no visitors were likely to click on these adverts. Which means wasted page impressions that bring my Adsense CTR way down. Continue reading →

You're using Yahoo Site Explorer to analyse the inbound links of a website you're interested in buying. You can even export the first 1,000 inbound links as TSV and look at the data in Excel. However, you have to eyeball the list and step through it manually to determine unique linking domains. Continue reading →

Are visitors to your website completing the tasks they set out to do? Are they leaving happy? I didn't know the answer to that one either. In general I write stuff in the best way I can and then measure the results using Google Analytics. If a page has a high bounce rate, that may be a Bad Thing, and if time spent on page is low, then that may also be Bad. Continue reading →

I don't usually do research on my competitors. In fact, I don't usually know who my competitors are. I generally don't care. I simply publish content I'm proud of and try to maximise the things I can, like traffic and the profit that my sites make. However, I'm not one to look a gifthorse in the mouth either. I love free, useful information, and I'm so very nosy. Continue reading →

The multiple adsense accounts question is often asked. Can you have several? According to Google:

No. Publishers are not permitted to maintain multiple AdSense accounts under the same payee name.

The bolding is mine in that quote. So it's simple, then. If you are running different companies to handle the revenue earned by different sites, then "you" can have multiple Adsense accounts. You just need to make sure that each account has a different payee name. Continue reading →
