Fading Passion

I love this guy! He started his site out of true passion and then put it up for auction a mere month later. I've known girls I've dated longer.

Guitarhero-rockband.com was started from true passion for the game but I've decided its better for me to sell it.

It's better that the owner sells this site because it stands to make no money.

I also like the way that he's covering all bases by using a keyworded domain with both Guitar Hero and Rock Band in there. However my favourite is guitar-hero-3-world-tour-mario-kart-fit-big-brain-academy.com. I guess that one was already taken.

Weird Minimum Bid

Where does that ludicrous minimum bid of $1,500 and BIN of $3,000 come from though? The site receives only 300 uniques / month and makes no money. I've seen some pretty weird valuations in the past (based on fabricated revenue and money the owner invested), but this one takes the biscuit.

Identifying The Positives In This Site

The site does actually have some things going for it, just not at the price the seller wants. For example, the Wordpress theme used (yeah, I didn't realise it was Wordpress either until I looked at the page source) is unique. However, anyone with minimal knowledge of Photoshop or Fireworks would be able to hijack the Guitar Hero logo and then apply a simple bevel to a vectored guitar head.

There's my 5 minute effort. I could scale that up and build a premium Wordpress theme around that. On the basis of potential revenue, I could probably sell that jpg for $1,500.

Back to the site. This is a prime example of un-usability. Look at the home page. Where are the navigational links? See those multicoloured - unlabeled - shapes at the top? That's them. I was wondering whether the owner was deliberately hiding the navigation to encourage adsense clickage, but I think this is merely a case of bad design.

On the plus side, it looks like this site has plenty of unique content. There are, in fact, 37 pages currently indexed by Google, which is promising. To be honest, the quality of the content isn't too bad either. I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to content (unless it's generating a lot of revenue) but I'd be happy owning this material.

My prediction: Reserve Price Not Reached. The seller's valuation is just too high for a site that gets a small amount of traffic and that makes no revenue.

Description:

Guitarhero-rockband.com was started from true passion for the game but I've decided its better for me to sell it. I've got way too many sites on my hands right now. I have to sell some of them. This is a perfect site for anyone who loves either one of these game, Guitar Hero or Rock Band. Guitar Hero World Tour just came out and with the Christmas season about to go full swing, this site is going to do well. There are two ways to make money on this site. First you can make money with AdSense revenue and second you can make money with the Red Octane Affiliate program through CJ.

There are three main components of this sale. The beautiful and completely original design of the site, the very unique and search engine friendly name, and of course all the unique content on the site. All the Guitar Hero and Rock Band series of games have their own info page with completely unique content.

The site is built on WordPress so its a breeze to administer. I've already done some SEO on this site so expect lots of traffic to be hitting this site soon.

You can add a forum to this site to generate user loyalty and get users to come back again and again.
Revenue Details:

There is minimal revenue at this time from AdSense. Revenue will grow quickly with some SEO work.
