Sitepoint Winners – May 2009

Website Selling Awards

May's lucky winners of the spgazette prestigious award for selling websites are as follows:

Site Unseen

connection-interrupted

This seller is selling his site,  knowing that it's currently down! Anyone interested in it will find that the site is unreachable. He will provide a screenshot of it though. This is a bit like buying a house based on a photo of it.

THE SITE IS CURRENTLY OFFLINE DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF VISITORS, PM FOR A SCREENSHOT / MORE DETAILS.

Not content with selling a site that nobody can see, the seller uses this never before seen line:

Currently we hardly have any advertisements on the site, and I know everyone uses it as an excuse, but we could at least triple the amount of ads on the site.

So triple the amount of ads, then! Demonstrate the gains to be had by making these changes.

HUGE potential!!

monkey-doThis is an auction for a site that makes no money, gets no traffic and has no members. However, the seller claims they did put an awful lot of work in. So naturally they're aiming for a sales price based on the work they put in and not the profit the site is making. The site does have

HUGE potential!!

so naturally that potential factors into the BIN of $2,500.

Given that this site makes no money, guess how the sales page sells its membership? That's right, by claiming that the owner is an expert in the art of making money.

You probably haven't come across my name as an internet guru because I have been too busy behind the scenes making money instead of talking about it!

I dunno. Something just doesn't add up...

More Website Selling Awards To Come

This was a rush job as I had a spare five minutes and thought I'd fill it with this post. Because I think this is a brilliant idea with huge potential, I'll give away more awards next month, and hopefully I'll spend more than five minutes doing it.
